ICC DISC GOLF REBRAND
ICC LOGO
Adobe Illustrator
This project focused on rebranding the Illinois Central College disc golf course and its associated elements. The first step was to design a new logo for the course, using the college's existing colors and mascot theme. The original ICC logo did not adequately represent athletics, so I created a fiercer, more aggressive cougar logo to better align with the athletic identity.
I started with sketches, then vectorized the logo and created multiple variations to suit different applications. For example, the "head" logo, which sits above the letters "ICC," is squarer and more simplified, making it easier to recognize at smaller scales compared to the full-body version. Finally, I applied some of the logos to disc golf disc mockups to visualize how they would look in context.
BASKET BANNER / DIRECTIONAL SIGN
Adobe Illustrator
72” x 4” / 30” x 25”
Two additional aspects of this project were the directional signs and basket banners. The directional signs guide players to the course parking area, using the easily recognizable logo for quick identification, especially since drivers may be passing by at higher speeds in cars. I also designed a parking "P" icon based on the branding and included the text "Course Parking" to eliminate any confusion.
The basket banners wrap around the top of each disc golf basket, serving both branding and functional purposes. Each banner features the logo and displays the specific hole number for easy identification. I chose to use the more recognizable version of the logo, as players would be viewing these banners from a distance.
TEE SIGNS
Adobe Illustrator
11” x 13”
The next element of this project involved creating individual signs for each hole's tee. These signs provide essential information about each hole, including an accurate tree map of the layout. I focused heavily on hierarchy when designing the sign to ensure clarity and ease of use.
The hole number is the most important piece of information, so I placed it large in the top left corner to make it easily noticeable. The next priority in the hierarchy is the hole’s distance and par, which I set at roughly the same size and positioned near the map, so they are seen next. To maintain brand consistency, I included the logo in the corner, but I used a version without text. This choice helps the logo blend into the overall design without competing for attention, as it does not need to be the focal point once the player is already on the course.
COURSE SIGN
Adobe Illustrator
45” x 29”
The last step of this project was designing the main course sign, which includes the overall course map and shows how each hole relates to the others. The sign displays the par and distance for each hole, course branding, and the basic rules of disc golf. Since players often take photos of this map before their rounds, I wanted to make sure the branding was prominent, so I featured the large cougar logo with the full lettering. This version of the logo is the most detailed and memorable.
To maintain consistency, I incorporated elements from the parking sign design, such as the "P" icon for the parking lot and the same number style for each hole. I simplified the details for the course map, removing individual trees that are not necessary at this scale and focused on the "throwing lines" that show the basic recommended shot paths for each hole.
